Day 16 - Bath to Worcester

Our second visit to Bath was to see the baths and the abbey. We did the abbey tower tour which was great.

Bath is world renowned for its baths, naturally. It was held sacred before and by the Romans. It was, and still is, a place of healing and pleasure throughout the centuries.  The photo below shows the baths next to the abbey in the lower half of the image. It is a good view of how far below ground they are. The people in the square are at street level. In the upper half of the picture is a pale blue patch. That is the modern spa baths.

Looking up at the Pump Room.

The baths have a wonderful museum which is under the buildings around the abbey. The photo above shows the Pump Room at street level today, then the stain on the walls and columns is where the baths were in the 1700s, then lastly the Roman level where the water is now.

Reluctantly we had to leave Bath, but we were heading for the Lake District, another area we were keen to visit. We were scooting along to Worcester when by the side of the road loomed a Roman villa. If any of you watched the tv show where modern day tradesmen built a villa by ancient Roman techniques then this was it. We were so surprised to see it.

And again

We booked into a very nice B&B in Worcester run by a lovely lady who kept us entertained with her stories. The room had a very palatial bathroom.
