First day in London

Arrived in London, were through immigration and customs, Underground from Heathrow, and checking into our accommodation within two and a quarter hours. Amazing, as we were expecting major delays at the airport.

We're about 250m from the station but in quite a nice backwater of a street, Bute Gardens, with little Georgian cottages and Victorian terraces. We dumped our baggage, had a cuppa and set off for the London Eye finding a very nice coffee shop on our way. It's only around the corner opposite Hammersmith Underground.

Emerging from Westminster station almost the first thing Denise saw was Big Ben literally glittering in the sunlight. The weather has been kind and the ride in the Eye was terrific. Sunshine lit up all the buildings and we could see for miles.

We sat and ate our tea on the embankment and watched the world go by. And the whole world is here at the moment as we've landed right in the middle of the Jubilee 4-day long weekend and there is much excitement in the city.
