Continuing Day 23 & Day 24 - more Stratford and the Cotswolds

After the town walk and Shakespeare's house our legs demanded a rest so we took a gentle cruise on the River Avon.

It was a very relaxing way to finish a full day. The next morning it was still fine and we thought it would be nice to visit another Shakespeare landmark, Nash's House. The house Shakespeare bought on his retirement and died in, New Place, is no longer. Nash's House belonged to the first husband of Shakespeare's granddaughter and is a museum. Next door was New Place and is now gardens. Currently an archaeological dig is being done there and it was interesting to talk to the people working on the site. Archaeological dig There is a wonderful knot garden and mulberry trees purporting to be from the same tree Shakespeare planted.

(Did Shakespeare ever touch this?)
So then it was time to move on and we meandered through the Cotswolds stopping for lunch at Stow-on-the-Wold. The definition of "wold" is a piece of high, open, uncultivated land or moor.

Enjoy these piccies.
